Purple combines the calm stability of blue with the fierce energy of red. It’s often associated with royalty, nobility, luxury and power. Purple can represent wealth, creativity, wisdom, grandeur, devotion, peace, mystery, independence and magic.
We love designer Helen Howes’ use of purple in her Interpolations 3a / Inpurpleation Quilt (shown here in progress):
If you’re inspired, read the story behind her design and to make the project download the pattern from Helen Howes Textiles.

Choosing the perfect background for your design will showcase it for the best effect. Like a picture frame, it can tone down a brightly coloured piece or make a more neutral palette appear bolder. The background may be required to take a back seat or perhaps to create a presence. So we’ve selected nine favourites for you to invest in now – and send us your photos in the future!

Hello East Coast America! If you fancy a feel of of our glorious Oakshott Fabrics then drop in to the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Hampton, Virginia from 25 to 28 February 2016 and go find Maria at the Pinwheels booth.
What a fantastic way to show off Oakshott’s trademark shot cotton weave using a traditional block and an Aruba Fat Quarter Pack. Rita Hodge of RedPepperQuilts chose this block because
‘the directional piecing creates a beautiful luminous, iridescent effect.’
Once again ace designer Lynne Goldsworthy of LilysQuilts has come up with a stunner, this time using the Aruba Fat Eighths Pack. This traditional design has a decidedly modern feel and the new kit has been christened Aruba Nine-Patch Wall Hanging
Lynne loves:
‘the effect of a nine-patch on point, creating an Irish chain and the interesting play and contrast when the same block is used together in two different ways.’
Buy the kit and pattern from Oakshott Fabrics (includes all the fabric for quilt top and binding); the finished size is 40 inches/1 metre square.
I adapted the Modern Blocks pattern for the red fat 8th pack to create something that fitted my long table. The runner is 73″ x 12″. I absolutely LOVE the colours – thanks!!!

Oakshott have created little bundles of monochromatic impact; in this case we have picked out seven bundles, each one based around one colour with complementary tints, tones and shades added. Each combination comes as Fat 8ths, Fat Quarters and Half Metre Blocks:
