This bold, graphic design called Shott in the Dark was created by Anne Williams, editor of The Quilter. What a wonderful illustration of our New Colourshott 01-30 shades in all their glory. Presented as a Mystery Row quilt over four issues of The Quilter, amazingly it uses just one F8ths Pack.
If you’re going to the Guild Conference at the Harrogate International Conference Centre from 24-26 April 2015, look out for the display of readers’ Mystery Row quilts. It’ll be fascinating to see how varied they are and the spin their makers have put on the basic pattern!
Earlier this year we marvelled at the eight stunning designs that came out of a bloghop run by Lynne Goldsworthy (see the individual ones in earlier posts). Now we have drawn them together into one of our FREE ezines so you can choose which design to start with! Each quilt uses a selection from the 27 vibrant colours in a 10″ Square Pack of Colourshott 31-57 and the booklet tells you a bit about each designer and gives you the link to their pattern tutorial (covering topics like foundation piecing, 60 degree and half rectangle triangles, hourglass blocks, bias tape for appliqué, 6-patch trip around the world block).
So download the booklet here (or from the Instant Colour page, where you will find the others in the series) and meanwhile, have a go at matching the squares from each quilt off the front cover design:
… and last but not least for this bloghop:
“I asked them to chose the background colour for me and received purple so I decided to use a design that I have been toying with for a while based on a 6-patch trip around the world block. It reminds me of a tiled floor with a folk art feel about it.”

Quilt Jane from Brisbane, Australia, has drawn some really appreciative comments on her blog for this masterpiece of brilliant colour. Love the Electra fabric as background for the Colourshott 10 inch squares (and the use of a charm pack for the flower appliqué pieces).
Very clear tutorial with templates for the appliqué and block assembly, thanks Jane. We’ll leave her with the last word (applicable to all these gorgeous creations):
“label and give it to someone you love”
I had never sewn with Oakshott previously and I also wanted to try bias tape for appliqué so I incorporated both in this project. I learned Oakshott is wonderful!
Mary on Lake Pulaski has devised a clear tutorial on appliqué. She chose Amalfi as her background for the Colourshott 10 inch squares.
Those colourful Crazy Eights make us think of spinning maple seeds.
I wanted to put together a really straightforward but good sized quilt that maximised every inch of these pretty fabrics. So here is my tutorial for a simple hourglass block lap quilt.
I love the various range of colours and the crispy feel of these fabrics.
Fascinating stuff from Australia, our little 10 inch squares are getting themselves about a bit.
A rummage on Pinterest led Collette of Poppy and Poochie to thoughts of technicolor piles of spices.
The Oakshott fabrics are so shimmery and colourful so I wanted to show them off! The fabrics are a dream to work with and very stable and just beautiful to look at.
Alyce of Blossom Heart Quilts has translated the New Colourshott 10″ Square Pack of 27 colours into a seasonal mood palette. Wonder if you see what she sees in these colour ways*:
Alyce is travelling from Japan to the US to find some quilting threads at QuiltCon, it will be fun to see what she is inspired to do after her visit (don’t forget to drop into Pinwheels at booth 520).
Meanwhile Alyce has done a great tutorial on her blog: http://www.blossomheartquilts.com/2015/02/circle-life-oakshott-mini-quilt-tutorial/
