Bill's Beauty

The purchase of a Fat Quarter Pack from the Oakshott stand at the Festival of Quilts led Bill Burrows of Cheltenham, UK, to create this quilt:

WilliamBurroughs

“The quilt was my own idea … the solid, dense structure and colours of the Oakshott mercerised shot fabric was perfect for lots of small panels. A less solid colour fabric would have looked wishy-washy.
The strong fabric is lovely to work with, easy to cut and it keeps its position beautifully while sewing. It has that slight sheen which the mercerising process gives the fabric.”
Although, Bill does live close enough to drop by occasionally for more fabric and kindly says:
“I am treated really well and you go to great lengths to find what I am looking for.”
So thanks for sharing the beautiful end result with us Bill.

Vote Victorian

We congratulated Karen Terrens for winning best in show in Sydney in June 2015 now we can actually vote for her to win the Victorian Craft Award. Her Sanderson’s Apprentice Quilt (made using Oakshott fabrics) is a finalist in this wide-ranging event: it had 116 finalists out of 450 entrants; is exhibiting in four venues across Melbourne, Australia; covers all crafts from jewellery to ceramics, fabric to glass.

Read all about her work on victoriancraftaward.org.au/karen-terrens/ and vote for her in the People’s Choice (once you have checked out the other entrants, of course!) and be in for winning some craft vouchers.

Don’t you just love the world wide web; such beautiful things to see without moving an inch.

Size isn't everything!

With thanks to Laura Welkin for sharing both her good news and her picture:

This is my miniature quilt, Dancing Dahlia. It measures 15″x15″. It received a first at the AQS Paducah and a second place at the NQA Show. The dark blue fabric and the green background fabric are both Oakshott cottons. I have been told a few times that the green fabric seems to glow!

I discovered your fabric in the Pinwheels vendor booth at the Paducah show in 2014. I instantly fell in love with a bright blue and bright green. I only purchased half yards of each, so I had to make a small quilt. I entered the quilt in the 2015 Paducah show and received a first place in the miniature category! The question I am asked the most about the quilt is, “What fabric is the green background?” A judge’s comment from the NQA Show stated, “Use of silk fabric makes this small piece glow.” Many do think it is silk.
I found some eighth yard pieces on Etsy, so I am currently making another miniature with some of your violet fabrics as the background. Can’t wait to finish this one!
Thank you for making such beautiful fabric!
