Grand smocking

Thanks to Jenny Putney for letting us have these charming photos of her granddaughters in the beautiful dresses she made and smocked for them using Oakshott fabric (plain and checked purple) purchased several years ago:

Jenny-Pudney2-2 Jenny-Pudney1-2 “The fabrics were a joy to work with by hand and machine.  I used my smocking pleater to gather the fabric and matched the colours in the check weave to do the smocking which was my own overall design using ideas from a number of smocking books.  The scariest part was cutting the rectangle of smocking to the shape of the pattern and making sure that it was symmetrical … Thank you for selling such a range of high quality fabrics to delight us all.”

Fun with Leaves

In one of the brief moments we had to chat to neighbouring stands at this year’s Festival of Quilts we met Sue Schofield of Springwood House Designs. She has just launched a new publication called Fun with Leaves and it is full of leaf templates that are just perfect for our New Autumn fabric collection – don’t you agree?

New-Autumn_Sue-Schofield_Fun-With-LeavesIf you do indulge and create something leafy (maybe a Christmas wreath, if I dare mention it so early) do send us a picture.

Vote Victorian

We congratulated Karen Terrens for winning best in show in Sydney in June 2015 now we can actually vote for her to win the Victorian Craft Award. Her Sanderson’s Apprentice Quilt (made using Oakshott fabrics) is a finalist in this wide-ranging event: it had 116 finalists out of 450 entrants; is exhibiting in four venues across Melbourne, Australia; covers all crafts from jewellery to ceramics, fabric to glass.

Read all about her work on victoriancraftaward.org.au/karen-terrens/ and vote for her in the People’s Choice (once you have checked out the other entrants, of course!) and be in for winning some craft vouchers.

Don’t you just love the world wide web; such beautiful things to see without moving an inch.

Size isn't everything!

With thanks to Laura Welkin for sharing both her good news and her picture:

This is my miniature quilt, Dancing Dahlia. It measures 15″x15″. It received a first at the AQS Paducah and a second place at the NQA Show. The dark blue fabric and the green background fabric are both Oakshott cottons. I have been told a few times that the green fabric seems to glow!

I discovered your fabric in the Pinwheels vendor booth at the Paducah show in 2014. I instantly fell in love with a bright blue and bright green. I only purchased half yards of each, so I had to make a small quilt. I entered the quilt in the 2015 Paducah show and received a first place in the miniature category! The question I am asked the most about the quilt is, “What fabric is the green background?” A judge’s comment from the NQA Show stated, “Use of silk fabric makes this small piece glow.” Many do think it is silk.
I found some eighth yard pieces on Etsy, so I am currently making another miniature with some of your violet fabrics as the background. Can’t wait to finish this one!
Thank you for making such beautiful fabric!
